Hi family and friends! This year, to celebrate my 5 year anniversary of being a breast cancer survivor, I will be carrying a torch for the 2021 Flames of Hope Torch fundraiser. This was my dream as I was going through this journey in 2016. My breast cancer story began when I received a phone call from my doctor telling me I had lobular carcinoma in situ in my left breast and ductal carcinoma in situ in my right breast. After surgery to remove the lumps, they found the ductal carcinoma in my right breast was invasive, meaning it spread outside of the breast. I had another surgery where more tissue was taken and 5 lymph nodes were removed. Thankfully, it had not spread to the lymph nodes. I started radiation for the right breast shortly after that.
