As you may know, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2021 at 37 years old with no family history. After finding a lump myself and many ultrasounds, mammograms and biopsies later, I got the news that I had stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma, ER/PR+, HER2- and BRCA-. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy surgery in February and completed 19 rounds of radiation. I was one of the "lucky ones" that did not need chemotherapy.
Today, while I have no evidence of disease, I am currently on hormone therapy that has put my body into chemical menopause and hormone medication for the next 5 years in hopes it stays that way.
I am doing great! And have an amazing positive attitude, which I contribute to my dad.
The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation was a great resource for me when I was first diagnosed and introduced me to programs that I am still taking advantage of and to others fighting the same disease.
I am so excited to participate in my first ever 5K (let’s be honest, I will be walking most of it :)) and for it to benefit a group that I never ever wanted to be a part of, but so thrilled that these resources exist.
I hope you join me!
